New Lenox History

Old Campground
Religion was an important part of community life. The campgrounds on the west end of town were the scene of camp meetings during the summer. As many as 5000 people came to hear the preaching and to camp out in cabins or tents. Facilities included a tabernacle, dining hall, and bathhouse. The 1900 camp meeting was the 34th held on the grounds.

Dickinson House
Home and business construction was largely wood frame. Here Mr. Dickinson and his family enjoy their yard. New Lenox was known for its variety of trees: oak, beech, hickory, and others.

Trolley
The trolley began service in 1907. Here citizens pose for an inaugural photograph.
