Holiday Cards for Nursing Home Residents

Community Service Hours Available

Grades 7 – 12

Monday, November 16 – Tuesday, December 1

Come to the library and pick up a holiday card-making kit upstairs in Adult Services. We will be making cards for the residents of our local nursing homes. We will provide the basics in the kit, but we encourage you to use your creativity and make something special.

This is an opportunity for service hours. One hour of service will be awarded for every 4 cards completed.

Kits are available November 16 – December 1. All cards are due back to Adult Services by December 5.

Mental & Emotional Health for Teens

Grades 7 – 12

Why is the topic of Mental Health so taboo? Do you find that you are dealing with new challenges in the time of COVID? Are things bothering you that never used to? Are you noticing a change in friends and family? Join Marie Goulet, Assistant Director of Special Education at New Lenox School District 122, for an opportunity to learn some basics about stress, anxiety, and depression. Including positive coping strategies for you or someone, you know who might be feeling any of these things!

The following video will be available from November 12 to December 20.


Genealogy Club: The Illinois Regional Archives Depository

Illinois Regional Archives Depository has seven locations throughout Illinois, which hold selected governmental records for many of the counties in Illinois from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The Illinois State Archives have documents such as records of births, deaths, and marriages, land deeds, mortgage, and tax sale records, assessors’ and collectors’ tax books, poll books and voter registers, naturalization records including declarations of intent, and much more. This is an excellent resource for searching your family genealogy. Please join us!


Stitch & Make Together

NAMI Mental Health Essentials Presentation

Join us for a presentation by National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) DuPage that will cover basic information about mental illness such as signs and symptoms, talk about the prevalence and importance of discussing mental health problems, and provide practical steps for connecting people with mental illness and their family members to appropriate people and resources.

Take-Home Yarn Kits

Teens & Adults

Pick up a kit with donated yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks from our yarn swap. Kits are hung in bags near the elevator. Keep everything, or return what you don't need to our front Circulation desk staff so we can quarantine, clean and reshare safely. Kits will be available as supplies last.

We recommend Creativebug for learning new craft and home skills, including knitting and crochet. Ravelry has tons of free knitting and crochet projects. Visit the 740s in Non-Fiction (kids or adults) for books on fiber arts basics, new skills, and inspiration.

Breast Cancer Awareness Bingo

Spooktacular Halloween After Hours

Tweens, Teens (Grades 6-9)

Library Green (South side of Library building)

Join us for a spooky after-hours experience at the library. Make s’mores, sip on hot chocolate, and watch a scary movie! Bring a blanket or lawn chair, and don’t leave without your goody bag! Masks are required and permission slips must be handed in prior to the event. Click here for a copy of the permission slip. This event will be held outside to maintain safety and health precautions. The Effect of COVID-19 on College Admissions: What Will College Admissions Look Like in the Near and Distant Future?
