Winter Storybook Walk: How to Catch a Yeti

All Ages
New Lenox Village Commons Circle

Have an outdoor reading adventure while you take a wintry walk around the Commons. Discover zany ways to catch a Yeti as you walk around the circle path and follow the lamppost signs that contain pages of the book How to Catch a Yeti by Adam Wallace. Look for a new Storybook Walk book every season.

February Craft Grab & Go

Kit Pickup at Library

Call the YS Desk at 815-485-2605 and press 5 to request a craft kit for lobby pickup (mask required) or drop by the main YS desk and pick up a different craft every Monday beginning at 10 am. Everything you need is contained in the craft kit. Crafts are available while supplies last.

Do you love creating with LEGOs? On the first Tuesday of the month, we will post a new building challenge on Facebook. Share your design in the comment section for your chance to win bricktastic bragging rights as the “Brick Builder Champ” of the month.

Art Attack! Valentine Tic-Tac-Toe

Your imagination mixes with art in this art club just for tweens. Follow along with the video to make some amazing art @ home. Participants will be emailed when art bags are ready. Registration is required for an art bag only. Viewing the video does not require registration.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we’ll be making a tic-tactoe game with wooden hearts. You can paint your hearts for a classic and simple look, or you can add candy heart messages for an additional touch of whimsy.

Mad Science Club: Jellyfish in a Bottle

Grades K – 6

Discover awesome hands-on experiments and activities that you can try at home. Participants will be emailed when science bags are ready. Registration is required for a science bag only. Viewing the video does not require registration.

What makes the jellyfish float in the water? Make a swimming jellyfish out of recycled items.

Kit Pickup in the Library

Pick up a different winter themed craft every Monday in January. Pickup begins at 10 am and is available while supplies last. Everything you need is contained in the craft kit.

For curbside/lobby pickup only, please call 815-485-2605 and press 5. Tell us your name and we’ll place your grab & go bag in the lobby for pickup. When the library building is open, craft kits will be at the main Youth Services desk.

Storytime with Skates (Rescheduled to March 16)

Zoom Storytime

Join us for this special Storytime with Skates, the mascot for the Chicago Wolves Hockey Team! A Wolves staff member will read the book The Magic Hockey Stick by Peter Maloney before opening up the chat for a question and answer session with Skates! The Zoom meeting information will be given out in the reminder email the day before the event. Registration is required and begins January 5.

Meeting Rooms

Follow your fandom and geek out over graphic novels, comics, manga, anime, and more. We’ll create fan art, make zines, talk comics, and hang out. Throw on your ugly sweater because we’ll make a tacky headband to match. We’ll also be watching a short Holiday anime, too. Registration is required and begins November 24.
