Youth Services Assistant Manager

  • $38,000 annually

This position interacts directly with the public as well as with library staff to provide friendly, high-quality customer service.   • Bachelor's degree from accredited institution
  • Enthusiastic to work with children and their caregivers
  • Familiarity with both fiction and non-fiction literature for children
  • Flexibility to work various hours including evenings and weekends
  • Experience with reference work in a public library setting, including electronic resources and eReaders
  • Strong desire to work as an effective team member in achieving efficient and effective library operations
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • A good sense of humor
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the desire to provide excellent customer service
  • Communicates effectively in person, on the telephone, and in writing
  • Familiarity with privacy and copyright issues as they apply to libraries
  • Comfortable using computers, library equipment, online catalog, and other emerging technology

Description of Duties

  • Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and new services for the Youth Services Department
  • Assist in the planning, managing, and directing of all activities related to the operation of the Youth Services Department
  • Assist with the hiring and training of new staff
  • Assist with grant writing
  • Assist with Department schedule, timecards, and statistical reports
  • Supervise the Department in the absence of the Department Manager
  • May serve as person in charge in absence of senior staff
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Provide reference and readers advisory services
  • Assist in planning and implementing programs for youth; coordinate and cooperate with Adult Services Department
  • Develop displays and other public relations materials
  • Assist patrons with the use of library equipment (e.g. computers, eReaders, copy machine, etc.)
  • Participate in the selection and weeding of youth materials as assigned
  • Serve as a member of various employee committees as assigned
  • Provide tours for local groups
  • Maintains awareness of library trends
  • Attend outreach events as required
  • Attends workshops and seminars as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
