Adult Services Manager

  • Exempt full time
  • 35 hours/week, including morning, evening and weekend hours.
  • $42,770 

This position interacts directly with the public and library staff to provide friendly, high-quality customer service.  As a member of the New Lenox Public Library team, our values of accountability, initiative, responsibility and teamwork are integral to daily success. This position will assist in providing lifelong education to all patrons by ensuring day to day activities in the Adult Services Department while primarily focusing on the adult and teen population.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program
  • Four years of experience working in a public library preferred
  • Minimum one year supervisory/management experience in a public library or customer service role
  • Experience with reference work in a public library, including electronic resources and eReaders
  • Manages staff with consistent, sustainable and fair standards
  • Enthusiastic to work with people of all ages
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the desire to provide stellar customer service
  • Comfortable using computers, library equipment, online catalog, and other emerging technology
  • Familiarity with both fiction and non-fiction literature for teens and adults
  • Communicates effectively in person, on the telephone, and in writing
  • Ability to work as an effective team member in achieving efficient, effective library operations
  • Flexibility to work various hours including evenings and weekends
  • Access to transportation and ability to travel to meetings and conferences
  • A good sense of humor

Nature of Work

  • Supervise and direct 3 full time and 3 part time Adult Services staff
  • Hire, train, and evaluate staff for department
  • Collaborate with Management Team and Director on organizational development and strategic planning
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the Adult Services Department
  • Coordinates collection development for adult and teen materials
  • Implement new procedures relating to the effective operation of the Adult Services Department and recommend policy updates to better serve our community
  • Work the public services desk and act as a role model that provides empathetic and excellent customer service experiences to our patrons
  • Actively seeks, prepares, and applies for grant opportunities
  • Coordinate and cooperate with other departments in all matters
  • Prepare monthly reports as required
  • Assume the responsibility for the library when senior staff is absent
  • Assist patrons in using equipment (copy machine, self-check, computers, etc.)
  • Engage in continuing education and community outreach
  • Implement all library policies and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as required
