Museum Adventure Pass
Museum Passes can be checked out at the checkout desks in Patron Services. Passes are limited and first-come, first-serve. Passes cannot be reserved or checked out over the phone.
Admission offers vary per museum. For some, two or four people may be admitted free per pass, or by carload. If admission is usually free, another special discount will be offered.
Check the list of participating museums for details on each cultural destination. Find out what discoveries await you, get directions to the museum, and review each museum’s pass entry offer, including any restrictions that may apply.
How to Borrow Museum Passes
Visit the library or check the MAP website online to see if the passes are available. At the Library, staff will be able to check on what is available and also check out the passes. You’ll need your library card.
Passes are limited and first-come, first-serve. Passes cannot be reserved or checked out on the phone.
One Museum Adventure Pass may be checked out per family, per loan period. The loan period is seven days, and will expire after the date printed on the pass.
Museum Adventure Passes:
- May not be duplicated/copied
- Are non-transferrable
- Must be used by the patron checking out the pass, and
- May only be used once
Patrons may be asked for photo identification and library card to gain admission to the participating museum. Abuse of pass use may result in the patron’s suspension from the program.

How can I make a reservation?
Reservations must be made for a specific date. Using the calendar, choose what date you want to make the reservation for and then choose the Reserve option under the attraction. A confirmation box will appear, and a confirmation email will be sent to you. You have the option of printing out a pass at that time, or you can choose to print it out later.
Can I cancel a reservation?
You can cancel a reservation before you print or download a pass.
Who can reserve a pass?
Participating libraries’ card holders who are adults 18 and over can make reservations in Explore More Illinois. Photo ID must be shown on at the attraction on the day of the reservation.
How many reservations can I have?
You can have two active reservations at one time. Once one of the reservation dates has past, you can make another reservation.
Can I make a reservation for the same attraction more than once?
Attractions can limit how many times a patron can make a reservation. If you are out of reservations, you will not see the offer when you log into Explore More Illinois.
Will I get a reminder about my reservation?
Yes, you will get a reminder email three days before your reservation.
What do I need to bring to the attraction on the day of the reservation?
You will need to bring a photo ID and either a smartphone with the pass available on the phone or a printed copy of the pass. Some attractions require a printed copy, and that will be indicated when the you make the reservation.
